In September we rounded up the troops for a Bike-A-Thon in aid of Debra Ireland. The bike moved between our nationwide branches throughout the week and the participation from the team was beyond expectation. Even more importantly the donations were also beyond expectation! The funds raised by staff were doubled by HSS Hire bringing the final figure to €2370. We even went beyond our target distance, thanks to the competitive spirit of everyone on the bike.
We then had the honour of presenting the cheque to Emma Fogarty, an ambassador for Debra Ireland, in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise.
You might recognise Emma, she was on the Late Late show with Colin Farrell. Emma suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) on 80% of her body, the equivalent of third degree burns. Her bandages have to be changed everyday, taking up to four hours, and causing agony for her. Debra Ireland work to support people suffering from this disease, just like Emma..
Against all odds, Emma turned 40 this year. Colin Farrell ran the Dublin Marathon to celebrate, and to help fundraise for the charity. He pushed Emma the final 4 km in a specially made chair and to date they have raised just over 900k!
